Mr. Herbert W. Bailey, 92, entered the gates of heaven Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at home and surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 24, 1924 in Richmond County, son of the late Eugene and Kelly Cox Bailey.

Mr. Bailey was a founding member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was retired from Sunbeam Bread Company, as a Route Supervisor. After his retirement, he worked at Rockingham Junior High School for a number of years, and was associated with Watson – King Funeral Home from 1986 to the present. Mr. Bailey was a veteran, serving in the U. S. Army during World War II.

A service to celebrate Mr. Bailey’s life will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, May 19th at Glenwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Joel Perry officiating and concluding with military honors. Visitation will follow the service.

Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Anna Louise Meacham Bailey; daughters, Carol Crawley of Rockingham, Gail Tillis and husband Larry of Ellerbe, and Kelli Gillis and husband Kent of Rockingham; four grandchildren, Josh Spencer, Brett Spencer, Adam Robbins, and Kai Scott; one great grandchild, Kemper Scott; a sister, Kate Boyette of Hamlet; and a special niece, Donna Meacham. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene Bailey, Robert Bailey, and Roland Bailey.
