Zietta Teal Hatcher died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in Cordova, NC at the age of 90 surrounded by her family.
Zietta was born on May 8, 1927 in Anson County, North Carolina to William B. and Susie Ila Teal. She graduated from Morven High School. She married Otis Hatcher of Wallace, SC in 1946. After moving to Cordova, NC, Zietta began working at Klopman Mills (Steele Plant) as a spinner and worked her way into a supervisory role. She worked for Klopman Mills which later became Burlington Industries and retired after many years of service. Over seven years the couple welcomed four children into their home and their home became the gathering place for children of the neighborhood. Her children remember her as a loving, caring mother who was the backbone of the family.

Zietta is survived by her four children: Gail (Lamar) Skipper of Rockingham, NC, Judy Wright of Rockingham, NC, Terry (Nancy) Hatcher of Newport News, VA, and Ardell Deese of Rockingham, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Angel (Kevin) Mabe of Rockingham, NC, Misty (Chris) Cline of Warner Robins, GA, Lyn Wright of Cordova, NC, Tracy (Donna) Skipper of Rockingham, NC, Travis Deese of Rockingham, NC, Kim (Kris) Grytebust of Newport New, VA, Crystal (JR) Cottle of Rockingham, NC, Heather (Roger) Boone of Hamlet, NC, Brandon (Lorena) Deese of Rockingham, NC, Jamie(Chip) Idol of Gainesville, GA, and Allison (Jonathan) Goodwin of Hamlet, NC. Surviving are numerous great-grandchildren: Evin and Justin Mabe, Daniel Cline, Kaitlyn, Lindsay, and Dylan Skipper, Aiden Grytebust, Emma Forbis, Dean and Kenan Cottle, Ethan, Kylee, Chase, Danika, and Brandon Jr Deese, Isaac and Levi Sessoms, Nate, Joey, and Alyiah Mauk, Caden and Nolan Idol, and Justice Goodwin. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of 47 years, Otis; her siblings, Ethel Lowery, Grady Teal, Marie Truex, Dorothy Shankle, and Colleen Campbell; and a granddaughter, Melissa Skipper Melgarejo.

She was a member of Cordova Baptist Church where she served on the social committee, the choir, and was a member of the Fidelis Sunday school class.

The family will receive friends and family on Friday, March 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham, NC and at other times at the home. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, March 3 at 11:00 am at Cordova Baptist Church in Cordova, NC. Pastor Douglas Anderson will officiate the ceremony.
