William Thomas Smith

William Thomas Smith,72, of Rockingham passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital. He was born February 3, 1949 in Richmond County, a son of the late Gene A. and Eva Mae Grooms Smith.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Billie Jo Smith Haire and a brother Kenneth Gene Smith.

Mr. Smith retired from CSX Railroad and was a proud veteran of the Untied States Armed Forces. Willam was very loving and devoted to his family and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 23,2021 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery 5957 Pleasant Hill Rd. Wallace, SC 29596 with Bishop Marvin Taylor officiating. Please wear a mask and to continue social distancing.

Surviving his wife of 54 years, Mattie D. Smith; Daughters, Ellen M. Smith and Christie T. Nichols (William T. Nichols); Sisters, Cathy Godwin, Mary Jane Heaton (JR Heaton), and Priscilla Teal; Grandchildren, Kimberly Haire, Curtis Haire (Rebakah Haire) and Steven Knight; Great grandchildren, Brycen Haire, Kairi Bower, Joanna Haire and Charlotte Haire.
