Mr. Wayne Stephens,   65,   passed away Monday,  June 19, 2017.  He was born July 3,  1951, son of Cecile White Stephens and the late James Stephens.

 

Mr. Stephens was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  He was retired with thirty eight years of service as the Director of Transportation with the Richmond County Public Schools.   Prior to that, he taught auto mechanics for ten years at Richmond Senior High School.   Mr. Stephens had been a member and a past president for the NC Pupil Transportation Board.  In 2014, he was inducted to the NC Pupil Transportation Hall of Fame.   He was the Director of the Driver Education program in Richmond County for many years.  He worked with his father for many years at Stephens Texaco. 

Wayne’s passion was the time spent with his grandsons, Jackson, Andrew, and Harrison.

 

A service to celebrate Wayne’s life was conducted  11:00 am Thursday,  June  22nd at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Rockingham. 

An inurnment service will be at a later date at Richmond Memorial Park. 

 

Mr. Stephens is survived by his daughter,  Candi S. Boney and husband Clifton of Hamlet; three grandchildren, Jackson Boney, Andrew Boney, and Harrison Boney;  his mother, Cecile W. Stephens of Rockingham; and a brother, Gerald Stephens of Florence, SC.

 

 Visitation  was Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Watson – King Funeral Home in Rockingham and other times at the home of his mother.

 

Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church,  596 E. Washington St., Ext., Rockingham,  NC  28379.
