Thomas A. (Tom MacCallum), 82, of 192 Lakeshore Drive, Rockingham, died Sunday, February 20, 2022
at home with his beloved wife, May, and friends Cora Stuart and Brenda Caulder by his side.

MacCallum was the son of Thomas E. and Mildred V. MacCallum. He was an employee of the Richmond
County Daily Journal for many years before retiring.

He was interested in the preservation of local history. In doing so, he had served on the board of the
Rankin Museum in Ellerbe and the board of the Richmond County Historical Society. He was co-author
with Lowell Stevens of the book “Camp Mackall, N.C. Its origins and times in the Sandhills,” donated to
the Richmond County Historical Society and also assisted in publications for other local residents. He
and his wife, May, produced many writings in connection with Richmond County history and members of the Genealogy Committee of the Society.

A veteran of the United States Army, MacCallum was a long time member of the American Legion Post
in Wilmington, N.C.; Rockingham- East Rockingham, N.C. American Legion Post 147; American Legion Post in Cheraw, S.C. and a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 316 in Rockingham. For many years he was a part-paid volunteer Firefighter with the Rockingham Fire Department.

MacCallum is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, May Burch MacCallum; a sister, Peggy Rubinstein of Twinsburg, Ohio and her daughter, Janice Scotton, an anut, Rose Bergen of New Jersey; nieces, a nephew, and cousins.

Visitation will be held 11:00 a..m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday February 24, 2022, at Watson-King Funeral
Home, Rockingham.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2022 at St. David’s Cemetery, Cheraw, S.C. the historic St. David’s Church will be open on Tom’s
honor following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tom and May MacCallum Scholarship Fund at
Richmond Community College Foundation, P.O. Box 1189, Hamlet, N.C., or to the charity of one’s
choice.
