Shirley McLendon

Shirley Dean McLendon, 86 of Rockingham, completed her earthly journey on Thursday, November 16, 2023, surrounded by her family in Ellerbe, NC. Ms. McLendon was born April 17, 1937, in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Lacy and Winnie McLendon of Rockingham, NC.

She was a member of Pee Dee United Methodist Church in Rockingham and volunteer bookkeeper. In her earlier years, she had worked at New York Life Company in Lexington, Kentucky for 30+ years. She enjoyed working in her yard and taking care of her beautiful flowers and landscaping. She liked to knit and to make quilts. She loved and was loved by her whole family. Some of her most treasured times were spent with her sisters and family shopping and sharing a meal together. She enjoyed visits from family and friends, from near and far.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Myra Dawn Wells, and Patricia Gaye Hagen. Surviving are her nieces and nephew, Angie McAuliffe, Pam Wells, Jenna Etemad-Lehmer and Jonathan Hagen; cousins Jill Vuncannon, Jody Honeycutt, Leo Poole and other extended family.

A graveside service will be held at Northam Cemetery Ext. , Northam Rd and Snead Avenue in Rockingham at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023.
