Richard Wayne Lunceford, 75, of Hamlet went to his heavenly home on May 18, 2023 at his home. He was born July 25, 1947 to Will JR Lunceford and Loletha Johnson Lunceford. Richard graduated from Rockingham High School in 1965. He attended Richmond Technical Institute where he earned an Associate Degree in Auto Mechanic. Richard served the US Army in Germany from 1968-1974.

Richard was a Christian and was an exemplary example of how to work hard, live kindly and serve God. He was a member of Tabernacle Church in Ghio, where he served as a Certified Lay Speaker. Richard was a proud member of the Hamlet American Legion Post 49 and has served as the 16th District Commander. He was also, a member of the Rockingham Masonic Lodge #495 and was Master of the Lodge 2004-2005.

Richard enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing, supporting his grandchildren at their 4-H goat shows or ball games. After retiring he enjoyed being a Volunteer with Richmond County Hospice and the Meals on Wheels Program of Richmond County and going to the Hamlet Senior Center.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Will JR and Loletha Johnson Lunceford and his in-laws Calvin N. and Mary Alice Gibson. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Valeria Gibson Lunceford of 49 years. Children, Hattie (Danny) Reep and William (Brandi) Lunceford and grandchildren, Kristi, DeLani and Lexi Reep, Riley Mintz, Tobey Lunceford, Kolby Price and Dakoda Deaver. In addition Richard is survived by his sister Lisa (Eddie) West, sister in laws, Beth McQueen, Susan (Rev. Terry) Cornelius, Tracy Ezzell and brother in law, Randy Ezzell along with his many nieces and nephews.

Richard is also survived by his special grandchildren Morgan Rockwell Moneymaker, Natalee and Ona Jonas, Dixie Acron Black, Stephanie Crawford Waldo and Kamlyn Ledwell. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Cornelius and Rev. Lisa Craver. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park Cemetery.

The Family will receive friends Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 4-6 p.m.at Watson-King Funeral Home, Rockingham and at other times at his home 340 Old Gibson Rd, Hamlet.
