Opal Berryman, 95, of Rockingham passed away September 4, 2017. A native of Randolph County born March 2, 1922, the daughter of the late R.S. Boone and Elizabeth Harper Boone.

She came from a large loving family with two sisters and seven brothers. Opal retired from Sandhurst Hosiery (Leggs Plant) after 29 years in the inspecting department and quality control. Opal has been an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church since 1953 where she received a plaque in 2005 for 52 years of teaching Sunday school. She also taught Mission Friends and Girls in Action and was a member of the hospitality committee for many years.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, and growing flowers. She loved people and was very hospitable; always offering someone a glass of tea or something to eat. No one was sent away hungry. She was devoted to her family and her greatest treasure was to spend time with them.   
                        
Opal was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, the love of her life, Guy J. Berryman and her son-in-law Jimmy Lassiter. She is survived by her two children Phyllis Lassiter of Rockingham and Michael Berryman of Chattanooga TN; her only living sibling, a brother, Philip Boone of Raleigh; three grandchildren Belinda (Keith) McDonald, Sonya (Robby) Hughes, and Zachary Berryman; five great-grandchildren Amanda (Dale)Monroe, Nathan (Tracie) McDonald, Brandon (Kristie)Hughes, Kelsey(Stephen) Tourigny, Olivia Hughes; and six great-great-grandchildren, Brianna McDonald, Garrett Hughes, Mae Joy Monroe, Ivy Grace Monroe, Aidan McDonald, and Gavin Hughes.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 7th, 4pm at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Rockingham with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Sieberhagen, Rev. David Sparks, and Rev. Dan Main officiating. The Family will receive friends at Mount Olive Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 6th, from 6-8pm and at other times at the home of Phyllis Lassiter, 460 Cartledge Creek Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Gideons International, PO Box414, Rockingham, NC 28380 and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
