Meltha White Floyd, 81, of Rockingham passed away at her home on Sunday, March 4th.
Born January 26, 1937 in Cheraw, SC, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Roberta Jackson White, and wife of the late Robert E. Floyd. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert E. Floyd, Jr. of Wilmington, NC, her brothers Edward Floyd of Rockingham, NC, and Kenneth Floyd of Wasilla, AK, and her sisters Vera Owens of Mullins, SC, Estelle Graves of Aberdeen, NC, and Edith Talbert of Richmond, VA.
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Floyd Berryhill of Raleigh; three sons, Wendell (Bubba) Floyd (Cindy) of Rockingham, Phillip Floyd (Alex) of Carolina Beach, and Scott Floyd (Julie) of Wilmington; four sisters, Cecile Stephens and Bobby Jean Caulk both of Rockingham, Ethel Huggins of Summerville, SC, and June Barnett of Inman, SC,; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Floyd worked for Sara Lee Hosiery. She was an avid reader, a member of the Friendship Club, and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joys in life and she loved spending time with friends and family. She will be remembered by everyone she encountered for her kindness and generous spirit.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7th at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. A memorial service will be held in her honor at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 8th at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Rockingham.
