Mary Louise Thomas

Mary Louise Ellison Thomas, 85, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at her home.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 22 at 12:00 noon in the chapel at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. The family will greet friends after the service.
Born June 2, 1932 in Hollywood, California, she was a daughter of the late Lawson King Ellison and Mary Evelyn Ellison. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John E. (Jack) Thomas, a son, Donn J. Thomas, her great-granddaughter, Kristin Lynn Weatherly, 2 sisters, Jeanette Kidman, and Lee Seitz, and a brother Lawson King Ellison, Jr.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She retired from Richmond Community College where she worked as evening secretary and later in the continuing education department. She started the first Girl Scout troop in Richmond County. She and her husband Jack enjoyed bowling and square dancing. She played the piano and organ and also enjoyed singing. She was an animal lover and had a duck, rabbit, many dogs, cats, canaries and parakeets over the years. She also had several bird feeders and hummingbird feeders in her back yard. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be missed by all. During this last year, she had several caregivers, Vicki, Brenda, Mardene, Angela, Loretta, Georgia and others who took wonderful care of her in her home.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Lynn (Keith) of Rockingham; one son, Michael E. Thomas of Charlotte; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and her best friend, Margaret Payne.
