Tribute

Martha Julina Godbold LeVander entered into the presence of God on September 3, 2022. She was born on July 10, 1931 in Marlboro County, SC to Marion Boyd Godbold and Martha Julina Pearson Godbold. She was a graduate of Cheraw High School and the School of Cosmetology in Charlotte. She worked at Effie’s Beauty Shop in Cheraw, SC and Mary Belle’s Beauty Shop in Rockingham. Julina was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed crafting, crocheting, and working with her plants and flowers.

Julina was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church for 65 years and had perfect attendance in Sunday School for 59 of those years. She served as an Elder in the church, sang in the choir for 50 years, and she was active in the Women of the Church, serving as a Circle Leader and chair of their Missions Committee for many years. She loved the Lord, her family, and her church, and she devoted her life to Christ’s teachings of service to others.

Julina was also active in the local USPS Letter Carriers’ ladies auxiliary, holding various offices and she served as the State Secretary for the NC Letter Carriers’ Ladies Auxiliary for many years, helping to raise money for their college scholarship fund. She was also active in the Southern Pines NARFE chapter, serving as their Alzheimer’s fundraising chairperson for several years.

She is predeceased by her parents, her step-mother Cora T. Godbold, her beloved husband of 60 years George M. LeVander, Jr. and her sister Bettie Louise Godbold Adams. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Tony Anderson of Rockingham, her grandchildren and their spouses, Leanne and Patrick Jurczyk of Rockingham and Matthew and Sarah Anderson of Anderson, SC, her great-grandsons Michael and Kason Jurczyk and Jackson Anderson, her brother and sister-in-law M.B. and Pat Godbold of Cheraw, SC, many nieces and nephews, and her two close childhood friends, Hazel King of McColl, SC and Patricia Huff of Hartsville, SC. The family extends their gratitude to her caregivers: Angel Cobbler, Barbara Cook, and Alberta Bivens, as well as Richmond County Hospice for the care and kindness shown to Julina over the past four years.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church of Rockingham followed by a graveside service at Richmond Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church- 904 Fayetteville Road- Rockingham, NC 28379.
