Martha Baber Davis-Gandy, 95, died Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst. She was born April 29, 1925 in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Corinne Baber.
Mrs. Davis-Gandy graduated from Shelby High School. She attended Pfeiffer College for two years and went on to graduate from the Women’s College in Greensboro in 1947. Martha worked 42 years with the Richmond County School System retiring in 1990. She joined Central United Methodist Church of Shelby at the age of nine and continued as a faithful member of the Methodist Church. Upon moving to Rockingham, in 1953, she transferred her certificate of membership to the First United Methodist Church of which she remained a member for the next 68 years. She was also a member of the Rockingham Women's Club and the M.A.D.D. Organization. She enjoyed playing cards with her card club, cooking for family, and making jokes, many of which were at her own expense.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the
First United Methodist Church with Rev. Allen Bingham and Dr. Allison Farrah
officiating.
Surviving are her son Dave Davis and wife Susan of Rockingham; Grandsons, Kyle Davis of Wilmington and Jordan Davis of Southern Pines.
