Martha N. Carter,83, of Hamlet passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at her home. She was born June 16, 1939 in Richmond County a daughter of the late Robert T. and Mary Campbell Norton.
Mrs. Carter was a homemaker who provided a stable, loving home for her 5 children and husband. She answered God’s calling on her life to become a teacher of His Word, and was faithful to that calling. She taught Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church in Hamlet for over 20 years.She enjoyed getting up early in the mornings to get into His Word and find “golden nuggets” to share with her class and others. She also enjoyed serving on many committees at Calvary Baptist; especially the Search Committee. Martha was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed preparing large meals and gathering everyone together to share a meal or celebrate special events and holidays. She was also a great grandmother and a great great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband David L. Carter and a son Richard L. Carter.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 12 noon at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Monroe officiating. Burial will follow at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Surviving are her children, Norman C. Carter (Sandra) of Mt. Ulla, NC, Robbie Carter of Hamlet, Sherry Mitchell (Joseph) of Charlotte and Phillip Carter of Hamlet. Grandsons, David Benjamin Carter and Brandon Keith Carter (Nicole); Great granddaughter, Katlyn Carter; Great great granddaughter, Hasley; Daughter-in-law, Linda Carter of Hamlet; Sister, Myrtle N. Bridges (Howard) Angier, NC; A brother, Bobby Norton (Pat) of Hamlet;
The family will receive friends Saturday from 11-12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at other times Mrs. Carter’s home.
