Marshall Clay Fowler, Jr.,94, of Hamlet went home to live with Jesus on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Richmond Co. Hospice Haven. He was born October 10, 1926 in Hamlet, N.C., the son of the late Marshall Clay Fowler, Sr. and Vena Mae Smith Fowler.
Marshall graduated from Hamlet High School in 1944 and joined the US Navy in August 1944. He served as an electrician aboard the ARL 19 Patroclus (a landing ship tank converted to an auxiliary repair lighter). He was present at the signing of the peace treaty with Japan on September 2, 1945. He was honorably discharged in July 1946; he was in the inactive reserves for 4 years. He attended N.C. State College under the G.I. Bill. He loved God, country and family. His humble and kind spirit will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Lois Fowler Lehon.
A graveside service will be held Monday, April 26, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Richmond Co. Memorial Park with Pastor Dan Blair and Rev. Adolph Smith officiating. Due to COVID-19 please wear a face mask and continue social distancing.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Keziah Fowler; Four nephews Paul Lehon, Harold Lehon, John Lehon and Tom Lehon; Sister-in-law Elizabeth K. Briggs; Brother-in-laws Jacob and Ray Keziah and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
