John Thomas Walters,73, “Mayor of Bunch Rd.” Laurel Hill, NC passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at his home. He was born April 8, 1948 a son of the late Marley and Treva Barnes Walters of Rowland, NC.
Mr. Walters worked at Winn Dixie, Big Star and Bi-Lo’s as a produce manager for 24 years. He was also a wheeler and dealer who loved to care for his goats and chickens.
He loved his family and did whatever was necessary to provide for them.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Percy, Robert M., Robert L., William Earl, and Pete Walters, a sister Maitlend Walters McNeil, grandsons Clay Dew and great grandsons Caden Keith Butcher and Garrett Grantham.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Watson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Hamlet with Pastor Jerry Wayne Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wallace, SC.
Surviving, His wife of 48 years, Rachel “Frances” Smith Walters; Children, Karen (Dennis) Pope of Coats, NC, Teresa McCall of Coats, NC, Richard (Kathy) Roscoe of Newton Grove, NC, Dean Roscoe of Dunn, NC, Gail (Scott) Allred of Laurel Hill, NC and Kenny (Kim) Roscoe of Dunn, NC; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ruby Walters Graham of Rowland, NC, brothers Harold (Martha Rae) Walters of Rowland, NC, and Billy Joe (Kim) Walters of Bladenboro, NC.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:30 P.M. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet and at other times at his home 21960 Bunch Rd. Laurel Hill.
