Mrs. Viola Jane Locklear,  75,  passed away Saturday,  September 30,  2017 at her home.  She was born January 3,  1942 in Columbus County,  daughter of the late Annie Lou and Franklin Ward.
 
Mrs. Locklear  was a greeter and worked in the Garden Center at Walmart, until her retirement in 2012.  She was very involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed cooking.
 
Services will be conducted  2:00 pm Tuesday,  October 3rd in the chapel of Watson – King Funeral Home in Hamlet with Rev. Michael Carpenter and Rev. Jack Kivett officiating and interment following at Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery.  The family will have visitation to see friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Watson – King in Hamlet and other times at the home.
 
Mrs. Locklear is survived by her children, Lynn (Eric) Snipes of Rockingham,  David (Elizabeth) Locklear of Hamlet,  John (Lynette) Locklear of Rockingham, Nancy (Gerald Huckabee) Locklear, and Cindy Locklear; grandchildren, Eric Snipes, Jr., Clint Snipes, Andrew Huckabee, Hailey Locklear, Harley Locklear, David Andrew Locklear,  II,  Nova Buie, Austin Campbell, Micheal Campbell, Angel Sellers, Brittney Bowman, Gerald Huckabee, Jr., and Christopher Huckabee, Sr.;  great grandchildren, Evan Sellers, Emilee Sellers, Christopher Huckabee, Jr., and Katie McIntyre; siblings, F. M. Ward of Hallsboro, Faye Locklear of Hamlet, Alice Locklear of Rockingham, and John Ward of Whiteville; a number of nieces and nephews; and her dog, Rock.   Mrs. Locklear was preceded in death by her husband, E. C. Locklear in 2001; a son, Earnest Locklear, Jr; and brothers, Chester Ward and Owens Ward.
