James Thomas "Tommy" Gibson

November 29, 1939 ~ July 11, 2021 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

James Thomas Gibson (Tommy) was called home on July 11, 2021. He is now rejoicing in his heavenly home and resting in the arms of Jesus.

Tommy was a man of many talents. For years, he had a frame shop called Tommy's Frames. He had many hobbies that he loved: working in his beautiful rose garden, doing amazing woodcarvings, carpentry work, writing poetry, singing, playing the guitar, cooking, and baking. He was famous for his cakes.

He would do anything for anybody.  He was a man of God and a man of family.  He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Gibson, and his daughter, Janice Byrd (Steven Byrd). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Gibson Purvis. He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Ashley Yuen (Matt Yuen) and Erica Purvis and a brother, Jerry Keith Gibson. He loved his family very much and was so proud to be a father and a grandfather.

His love for his wife, Phyllis was very evident, as he always treated her like a queen. They were married for 57 years, and they set an example for their children and grandchildren of what true love really looks like.

Tommy, you will surely be missed.  We will see you again one day.

He was preceded in death by three sisters Effie Boone, Jean Lane and Bobbie Capps and two brothers Billy Gibson and Terry Wayne Gibson.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Roberdel Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Dennis and Rev. Leon Hawks officiating. Entombment will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park.
