My heart goes out to the family of Billy Harris on his passing. In 2006, I interviewed Billy by telephone, for a Cleveland Indians book called "Portrait of a Franchise" that finally came out in 2014. Billy could not have been more helpful or kind. He answered every question, shared his memories, and provided numerous stories that I was able to share with readers. Billy also played a valuable role on a very solid baseball team -- the 1968 Indians came in third place in the ten-team American League. Blessings to Billy's family, friends and loved ones on his passing. - Doug Kurkul

I knew Bill while we were student athletes while in college.  I played basketball with Bill for three years. He was on of the best I ever had the chance to play with.  After college we would play golf with fellow Seahawks.  Whenever I saw Bill and it usually was at a basketball or baseball game he was always upbeat and cheerful and glad to see me.  I came to respect Bill Harris for many reasons but primarily because of his ability to live with and overcome almost any and every obstacle placed in his path.  His speech at his induction into the UNCW sports hall of fame was one of the best I have ever heard.  It was real and honest and reflects who Bill Harris was then and always will be in my heart and mind.  Rest in peace Bill!
