Helen Ridenhour Goodman

May 1, 1917 ~ January 5, 2021 (age 103) 103 Years Old

Tribute

Helen R. Goodman, 103 of Rockingham, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Quail Haven Healthcare in Pinehurst NC. She was born to Joseph and Lucy Ridenhour May, 1 1917 in Rowan County NC. She eventually moved to a dairy farm in Concord NC where she helped out. Helen attended Maryville College in Maryville TN, upon graduation she became a teacher and taught school for many years. She and her husband, Victor, found their way to Richmond County in 1955. Helen enjoyed a full and busy life. She was strong in the Methodist faith her entire life. Helen taught Sunday school until she was 95 and was very active as a meal coordinator and preparer for the churches food ministry. She had strong family values, every Sunday after church she cooked dinner for her family and made sure everyone was all together. The friends and family who would come visit knew they would always get a meal that she prepared, she loved to fellowship with food.

During the year she would crack and shell pecans and during the Christmas season, Helen would give the bags of pecans away to family and friends. When she wasn’t in the kitchen cooking or at the church she kept busy in her garden or tending to the animals. She loved to stay busy with different things, she defiantly wasn’t one to just sit. Helen never wasted anything, not even time.

One of her amazing accomplishments was in 2010, she and Victor were inducted into the 4-H hall of fame. What makes this so special is, not only are they the only husband and wife inducted, but there were only 100 chosen. They were charter members of the NC 4-H association. Helen also sat on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors.

Left to cherish wonderful memories of Helen are her son Victor (Barbara) Goodman and grandchildren; Gina, Tina, Kelly and Rob.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lucy Ridenhour, and daughter Bobbie Ruth.
