Mrs. Hattie McDonald Bates, 81, of Fayetteville passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. She was born September 15, 1936, daughter of the late Sallie Mae and William Grafton McDonald.

Mrs. Bates was a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. She was retired from Coble Dairy in Fayetteville, where she was a bookkeeper. Mrs. Bates had previously worked as a bookkeeper with Autry Chrysler Plymouth. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading the newspaper, canning, and quilting.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8th at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church in Hamlet, NC with Lisa Orr and Billy Bostick conducting and interment following in the church cemetery. The family will have visitation prior to the service at the church, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Mrs. Bates is survived by her husband, Kenneth Bates; daughters, Cindy (Billy) Bostick of Rockingham and Debbie Ross of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Ty Bostick, Breanna Bostick, Will Bostick, Jaynelle Ross, Garrett Ross, Wesley Ross, and Kaylyn Ross; great grandson, Wyatt Parks; siblings, John McDonald, Jim McDonald, Buck McDonald, Linda Overton, Brenda Clifton, and Darlene McDonald. Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by a brother, W. C. McDonald.

Memorials may be made to the Marks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 107 Polly Point, Rockingham, NC 28379.
