Eleanor Stobie

July 2, 1928 ~ January 24, 2024 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Eleanor M. Stobie, 95, peacefully passed Wednesday, January 24th surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 2nd, 1928 to the late Helen and John B. Marshall. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, David Stobie. They were happily married on August 11th 1956, and she continued to celebrate this anniversary the past thirteen years.

Eleanor was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a Pittsburgh native, she was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Eleanor loved to go cruising with her family and friends and loved reminiscing on those stories. Over her lifetime, she cruised over 26 times from Alaska to the Caribbean, with St. Thomas being her favorite destination.

Eleanor was a woman that embodied the word elegance, resembling the late Queen Elizabeth II her family nicknamed her Queen or Queenie. Throughout her 95 years she kept a curl in her hair and clothing precisely pressed. Eleanor was a phenomenal storyteller, which is a trait she passed on to her son Scott. Eleanor loved so many of God’s creations, the color blue, butterflies, chocolate ice cream and, of course, her favorite floral, pansies!

Eleanor was the kind of woman that could make an instant connection with just about anyone. She had the unique gift of making life long friends out of strangers.

Eleanor is survived by daughter Janet Weyant, and husband Gary, son Scott Stobie, grandchildren Cyntha and Westley, sister Linda M. Blinkhorn and husband Lee. Eleanor is further survived by her many cherished nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Monday, January 29, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in Eleanor’s honor at First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham with Pastor Ron Schermerhorn officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation in the fellowship hall following the service.
