Darthie Long

Darthie Virdie Currie Long, 92, of Rockingham went to be with her heavenly Father on May 8, 2018. She was born February 14, 1926 in Rockingham, daughter of the late Jessie Virdie Currie and Flora Leitha Baxley Currie.

Darthie was a retired textile worker. She enjoyed working with her hands and creating beautiful crafts, many of which are in homes today. Her family was most important to her and she loved them all dearly. If you had a conversation with her, you would hear about her children grandchildren and great grandchildren, you could tell how special each one of them were to her.

She was predeceased by her husband of almost fifty years, Melvin Long and a son, Robert W. Long.

She was survived by her children, George W. Long (Sandra), Katherine Bowers, and Michael W. Long (Kathy), all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Scott Long, Bryan Long (Angie), Angela Hensel (Dan), Annette Moran (Kenny), Drew Long, Derek Long (Katie), Traci Moore (Jerry), and Michael W. Long II. She was also survived by numerous great grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday evening, May 10th from 6 to 8 pm at Watson – King Funeral Home in Rockingham. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Friday May 11th at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 276 Hatcher Rd., Rockingham and interment following at Richmond Memorial Park.
