Maurice Dawkins 94, of Rockingham passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 at Fox Hollow Assisted Living in Southern Pines. He was born May 15, 1927 in Richmond County a son of the late William B. and Florence Easterling Dawkins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years Naomi D. Dawkins in 2016. Brothers – Perry, Bruce, Roy, Carl, Ray, and Ned; sisters Mary Grace Hackney, Mattie King, and Josie Hall.
Surviving are daughters Nancy King of Laurel Hill and Teresa (Mel) Gardner of Holly Springs; granddaughter, Ashley (Mat) Strangman of Wilmington and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dawkins served in the US Marines and retired from the Textile Industry. He was a lifelong member of Green Lake United Methodist Church. He enjoyed his retirement time working on small engines and appliances. Earlier in life he enjoyed riding motorcycles and dirt track racing.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Green Lake United Methodist Church with Jackie Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45 pm prior to the service at the church.
