Betty Margaret Smith

Betty G. Smith of Hamlet NC, passed away August 7, 2020 at her home. Betty was born December 17, 1934 in Bennettsville SC. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Herbert Smith. Herbert and Betty had a wonderful love story, they never had a cross word and never apart. They were truly the love of each other’s life. Betty was a homemaker and raised three daughters. She was known for her exceptional ability to cook, especially biscuits and fried pies. Betty was a strong role model for her grandchildren and will be deeply missed. Aside from being a great cook, she also loved to dance with her love, Herbert. Betty and Herbert enjoyed taking trips to Cherokee NC to visit the casino and try their luck every now and then. They were lifelong companions. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter; Patricia S. Swanger (Timmy) of Hamlet NC; three grandchildren: Mandy Hargett (Dustin) of Gastonia NC; Stacie Hargette (Corey) of Belmont NC; Timmy Swanger (Paula) of Concord NC. There are seven great grandchildren left to cherish the wonderful stories of their grandma. Betty is preceded in death by two daughters; Linda S. Culp and Betty S. Banker.
Visitation will be Tuesday August 11, 2020 from 6pm-8pm at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet NC.
Graveside will begin at 10:00am Wednesday August 12, 2020 at Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery in Hamlet NC. Officiated by Rev. Steve Cruz.
Masks and social distancing is required at visitation and graveside.
