Anne Hiott McLaurin

Anne Hiott McLaurin, 71, of Marston, died Monday, December 10, at Reid Heart Center in Pinehurst, surrounded by family.

Anne was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who married her high school sweetheart, Dennis “Denny” Keith McLaurin, on December 22, 1967.

Throughout her life, Anne touched the lives of countless others as part of Richmond County Schools, and later at the Richmond County Department of Social Services, from where she retired. Together, she and Denny shared a love of the beach, music, dancing, and travel. In their younger years, they frequented Ocean Drive shag clubs Ducks and Fat Harold’s, where they competed in several shag competitions. A memorial brick with their names engraved on it is located outside Fat Harold’s, close to the star. Anne was an active member of the Episcopal Church Women, and loved her “Little Brown Church” family.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur W. and Verta Mae Lail Hiott, sisters Cynthia Gail Hiott, Mary Hiott Hildreth (John), Joan Hiott Spratt (Clyde), and brothers Arthur Charles Hiott, James Neal Hiott, Bruce Hiott (Dottie), and daughter, Wendy McLaurin Dennis. Anne is survived by her loving husband Dennis Keith McLaurin, daughter, Melonie Anne McLaurin of the home, grandchildren Charles Alexander Heeley (Christopher), Victoria “Tori” Elizabeth Brigman, and Jerry Wayne “Tripp” Brigman III, and sisters Kay Hiott Eason (John) and Becky Hiott. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and “adopted” grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Anne’s life was at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 217 Henderson Street in Hamlet. Internment followed directly afterward at the church columbarium. Visitation with the family followed in the Parish Hall.
