Mrs. Thelma Chavis Knight went to be with her heavenly father on July 8, 2017 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. She was surrounded by family while she made her journey. She was 93 years old. Thelma was born in Richmond County on October 23, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Zack and Maggie Grooms Chavis


Mrs. Knight is survived by her brothers, Roman Chavis, and Leavey Chavis, both of Hamlet


She was preceded in death by her husband, T. L. Knight; Amos Chavis (brother), Sterling Chavis (brother), Walter Chavis (brother), ZacK ' Bud' Chavis (brother), John Chavis (brother), Failrley Chavis (brother), Herbert Hoover Chavis (brother), Caroline Chavis Parrish (sister), and James ‘Joe’ Chavis (brother) . Also preceding her in death was a special friend, Charlie Smith. Even though Thelma did not have children, she loved by many nieces and nephews.

Thelma lived most of her life in Charlotte, NC. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She was retired manager of a mobile home park in Charlotte. She loved to grow flowers, cook and collect salt and pepper shakers.

Visitation was Monday evening from to 6 – 8 pm at Watson – King Funeral Home in Hamlet. Services were conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, July 11th at Church of God of Prophecy in Hamlet. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

A special thanks to the employees of Richmond Pines for the many years of great care provided to Thelma. Also thanks to the staff at Richmond County Hospice/Hospice Haven for providing a peaceful, loving transition.
