Mrs. Sarah W. Newsome, 87, formerly of Hamlet, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 in Winston-Salem. She was born Jan. 18, 1930, daughter of the late James and Mary Sawyer Whedbee.

Mrs. Newsome was a very active member of Fellowship United Methodist Church. She was a delegate to the Methodist Annual Conference for over 10 years, and an alternate for several more years. Mrs. Newsome was president of the United Methodist Women for three years, was a circle leader, and sang in the choir for over 40 years. She was a member of the Susan Sharpe Cancer Support group, and a member of the Lunch Bunch, that branched off from the Grief Counsel and Support Group.

Services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, June 19 at Fellowship United Methodist Church with interment following at Richmond Memorial Park. The family had visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Newsome is survived by her sons, Stephen Lawrence Newsome and wife Debbie of Advance and Craig Alexander Newsome and wife Bobbye of Matthews; three grandchildren, Hannah Newsome, Kati Newsome, and Ali Newsome. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence T. Newsome.
