Henry Albert Meacham Jr., 86, passed away Saturday, March 2nd, 2024. Henry was the son of the late Henry “Ham” Albert Meacham Sr. and Elizabeth “Lib” Long Ormsby Meacham. He was born April 22nd, 1937, in High Point, North Carolina. Henry had been born with cataracts which would impede his ability to see clearly. At a young age, he would then endure an injury to his eye which further compromised his ability to see.

Henry attended the North Carolina State School for the Blind in Raleigh, NC, where he would learn to navigate life despite his limited sight. Henry would go on to attend Rockingham High School, where he would perform in many talent shows his infamous impression of Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog”. He was the Manager of the Rockingham Rockets Football Team in 1957, ’58,’59, and ’60 as well as the Manager for the Basketball team in 1957. Henry graduated in 1960 from Rockingham High School.

Throughout most of Henry’s adult life, he resided in Norwood where he owned and operated “Henry’s Record Shop” off Highway 52. While in Norwood, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir; Henry also belonged to the Lions Club of Norwood. Henry was well known in Norwood, Rockingham and the surrounding areas as an expert in cane and rush bottom chairs. He did beautiful work and many of his chairs are still around today. Henry never met a stranger in Norwood, He loved talking to people in his community and was a genuine soul.
Henry is predeceased by his parents Ham and Lib; and brother-in-law, Joe Mack McLaurin.

Henry is survived by his sister, Cooper Meacham McLaurin; loving niece, Holleigh Elizabeth McLaurin; and great-nephew Joseph Neelix Fountain McLaurin.

Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 5th, 2024 at the First Methodist Church in Rockingham with Pastor Darrell Bowles and Dr. Allison Farrah officiating the service. The family will receive friends for visitation an hour prior in the sanctuary. Interment will follow at Eastside Cemetery.
