Evelyn Baldwin Spencer, 92, of Rockingham, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Wesley Woods Towers in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born August 29, 1925 in Laurinburg, the younger daughter of the late Homer Baldwin and Rosa Graves Baldwin.

Evelyn, known her entire life as “Tot,” was a graduate of the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina which is now known as The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was certified as a first grade teacher and taught for a number of years before turning her focus into being a full-time homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rockingham and, she played the piano and taught a children’s Sunday School class there for many years. Tot served her community by volunteering her time at the now FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital as a Pink Lady. She supported The Richmond Community College Foundation Inc. and was a member of the Richmond County Historical Society. Tot also supported the Rockingham Rotary Club through her efforts as a Lady Rotarian in their annual auction to raise money for the education of children and families in need. She supported many other charitable organizations including The March of Dimes.

Tot was preceded in death by her son, Walter J. Spencer Jr., and her beloved husband, Walter Jesse Spencer; as well as her parents and her older sister, Margaret Rose Scott (John) of Charlotte.

Tot is survived by her youngest son, John B. Spencer and wife, Beth, and her grandsons, Jack and Bridges - all from Atlanta, Georgia.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Rockingham with Dr. Jim Nelson officiating.
