Charles P. “Smurf” Thompson,66, of Hamlet went to be with his Heavenly Father, Monday, March 13, 2017 at his home. He was born February 28, 1951 in Chesterfield County, SC, a son of the late Edward and Geneva High Thompson.

Charles retired from CSX Railroad with 41 years of service and was a member of the Brotherhood Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hamlet, Hamlet Masonic Lodge #532 and Scottish Rites of Charlotte.

Surviving, his wife, Jenny W. Thompson of Hamlet; Daughter, Heather Clemmons and husband Jon of Rockingham; Son, Gratten Short and wife Lisa of Hamlet; Sister Sara Little and husband Wayne of Oakboro; Brother, Edward “Felix” Thompson and wife Betty Gray of Polkton; Grandchildren, Myles and Madison Short and Jake and Reese Clemmons. Last, but not least, his sweet dog Tilly.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Hamlet with Rev. Randy Bishop officiating.
