Mrs.  Alene S. Layton,  94,  of  Rockingham passed away Friday,  July  21,  2017 at Pruitt Health in Rockingham.  She was born November 22, 1922 in Montgomery County,  daughter of the late Jack and Ora Bell Talbert Scott.

Mrs. Layton was a greeter at Walmart in Rockingham for almost twenty years.  She was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church.   She was a loving mother and  grandmother, affectionately known as “Gan”.  Mrs. Layton loved to cook, sing, and spending time with her family and friends.

Services will be conducted  11:00 am Tuesday,  July 25th in the chapel of Watson – King Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. Carl Moree officiating and interment to follow in Northam cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. 

Mrs. Layton is survived by daughters, Barbara Pankey of Rockingham and Sue Simpson of Rockingham;  a son, Donald Williams of Rockingham; a brother, Jim Scott of Troy;  a sister, Loraine Tidwell of Florida; thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Monroe Williams; and a daughter, Marie Nelson.
